“Sailing the Waves of Creativity: StAR Regatta 2024 Will Unveil Vibrant Painted Sails on the Intracoastal in Fort Lauderdale

Spring 2024, prepare for a captivating sight — picture dozens of intricately hand-painted sails, led by talented young sailors, setting sail on Fort Lauderdale’s stunning intracoastal waters. It’s an artistic masterpiece on the high seas that you won’t want to miss!
Grace Arts Center, an innovative Fort Lauderdale-based arts nonprofit, is thrilled to announce the forthcoming 2024 Street Art Regatta (StAR). This picturesque event is planned for Spring 2024 exact date (TBA) along Fort Lauderdale’s Intracoastal Waterway known as the ‘Venice of America.’ The exhibit on the water features a record-breaking number of participating sailors, guiding an impressive thirty original artworks on sails. Prior year themes of a water ballet among leaping sea-creatures and the glamour of Old Hollywood beach film joins 2024 images inspired by the Venice of America.
Highlighting the 2023 StAR Regatta was the acclaimed Opti sail, originally painted by Fort Lauderdale’s own graffiti artist, Artyek, which scored the winning position of the 2022 Optimist National Championship sailor Emilio Bocanegra. Joining this masterwork are two larger Laser sails, brought to life by the artistic talents of Nico and Didirok from the Wynwood Museum of Graffiti. Their creation, named ‘ocean butterflies,’ promises to add a unique and captivating visual element to the regatta.
