Miami Jewish Film Festival Shines a Spotlight on “Made in Miami” Films with the World Premiere of Miami Schmatta
Miami, FL — 1/1/2025— The Miami Jewish Film Festival (MJFF) proudly announces its 2025 spotlight on “Made in Miami” films, featuring the world premiere of Miami Schmatta. This compelling documentary, produced by Clare Vickery of Grace Arts Florida and Aaron Glickman of Glickman Media, delves into the vibrant immigrant legacy that built Miami’s once-thriving garment industry, offering an insightful lens into the city’s cultural and economic history.
Set against the colorful backdrop of the Magic City, Miami Schmatta unravels the threads of a dynamic industry that flourished in post-World War II and peaked in the 1980s. Through heartfelt interviews with business owners, tailors, designers, and historians, the film examines how shifts in U.S. trade agreements, urban decline, and cultural transformations altered Miami’s garment district forever.
The documentary also highlights Wynwood’s evolution from a bustling garment hub to a trendy arts district, capturing the challenges faced by Miami’s remaining garment makers as they fight to preserve their craft amidst urban redevelopment and global competition.
