Friday, March 29, 2019, young participants of Miami’s MAP Scholarship Program, will experience a “Night of Black Excellence.” The Black Tie Gala will be held from 7pm until midnight at the Ambiance Banquet Hall, 2700 South University Drive #206 in Miramar, FL 33025.

The Night of Black Excellence, is a fundraiser and awareness event for MAPS (Multi Media Arts Performance Scholarship). It is the brainchild of Mel Vanderpool of MVP Management.

“We want to bring “Black Tie” back into the community as well as the concept of what it feels like to be addressed as “ladies and gentlemen,” said Vanderpool. With the exception of the Prom, most people in disadvantaged minority communities, do not get the opportunity to experience a black tie event, and as a result they don’t have a good understanding of the proper attire, etiquette and the overall experience,” she said.

In addition to offering participants a “Black Tie Experience,” The Night of Black Excellence Gala will shine a light on young rising stars within the “Arts” world with live performances and art displays. There will also be a special showcase of the top 5 scholarship submissions. All proceeds raised through the Gala will go towards a current and next year scholarship.

Guests and art participants will experience an evening that will include a plated dinner, live music, a showcase of Black Excellence in the “Arts,” and a silent auction. Tickets are $50 and available for purchase via Eventbrite. Discounts available for group purchases.

Sponsorships are still available. Details on the website at www.mapscholarship.org.

About MAPS

Conde/Vanderpool Multimedia Arts Performance Scholarship (MAPS) was created to provide scholarships to high school seniors who demonstrate a passion for any of the numerous aspects of “The Arts” including but not limited to film, music, poetry, literature, dance, photography, and multimedia. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide a “map” for students who have a passion for the arts even if they are not pursuing a degree in that area. Often times for a number reasons, students give up on their passions for roads more “practical.” We want them to know that their passion for the arts is important regardless of what career path they may choose.

The scholarship will be offered once a year and open to high school senior applicants. Each year the scholarship will focus on one specific aspect of the arts and entrants must submit an application demonstrating their idea of “Black Excellence” in that genre. The top five submissions will be featured at the “Night of Black Excellence” Gala.
