Hip Hop Artist Amayah Tapped as Special Musical Guest to Kick off the Play Julia +Roselo in Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale, FL
Grace Arts Florida has announced that 16-year-old South Florida rapper/mc Amayah will be the special musical guest to kick off a cool, diverse, new Florida version of the play Romeo and Juliet called Julia +Roselo. Amayah will open the event as the special guest performer at 7pm sharp.
Grace Arts FL, a South Florida Non-profit Arts Center, premieres this adaption with an uber talented, diverse cast of actors, musicians, dancers, and artists, on Friday, May 10th, 7:00pm-9pm at the Broward County Main Library Theater, 100 South Andrews Avenue, Fort Lauderdale, FL. And on May 17th and 18th at the historic African Heritage Cultural Arts Center, 6161 Northwest 22nd Avenue, Miami, FL.
From before she could really talk you could find Amayah bopping her head to the likes of The Lox, Biggie and Jay-Z, so it was only destined that she too would one day put her lyrics to the test. She brings an east coast flare reminiscent of Biggie. A mix of Iranian, Puerto Rican and Cuban, she’s a smart storyteller and passionate rapper who has even challenged her teacher to a rap battle.
Amayah is fearless and her lyrics far beyond the complexity you’d expect from someone her age. She is a lover of old school hip hop and plans to bring that style of rap back to mainstream with a new school flare.
“I am excited to help kick off this super dope play. For people my age not familiar with Shakespeare, this is a cool version of Romeo + Juliet and I love that the cast is super diverse,” said Amayah.
As a bonus, Grace Arts is offering select high school and college students an exclusive opportunity to see Amayah’s performance and the play for half off the regular ticket price with a special eventbrite promotional code. South Florida college and high school students can also show their ID at the door to take advantage of the special half off offer.
